Baseball Rules And Quirks

Via The Hardball Times.

Includes the 23 (!) ways to get a man (any man) to first base which includes:

… if there is a runner on first base when the game is suspended. If this runner then gets traded prior to the makeup a new player is allowed to take his place without the roster implications of using a pinch runner, thereby reaching base.

Anyone care to explain to me the difference between #8 and #9 on that list?

Via some quick research - it seems interference would be a Jeffrey Maier - i.e. some douche bag reaching over a wall and snatching a would be out away from Tony Tarasco thereby crushing the Orioles’ hopes and dreams and propelling the Yankees into the World Series - and obstruction would be a fan running onto the field and making physical contact with a player.

Seems interference = touching the ball while in the field of play. Obstruction = body slamming Mark Grudzielanek as he tries to turn another world-class double play for YOUR Kansas City Royals!
