
Here’s a cassette recording made 40 years ago today by my father as the Akins clan watched the first steps by man upon the moon. I came across this tape probably ten years ago and was surprised that 1) I found it in the first place and 2) that the sound was still OK in places. Unfortunately a good portion of the tape would speed up or slow down during playback, so I ran my original audio rip through Audacity to clean it up as best I can. This is the finished product. I thought this was pretty cool from a historical perspective, and while the tape ends before Armstrong’s famous “One small step…” line, it still has some interesting tidbits of info from the news coverage.
