Around The Dawgosphere

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

See, it’s called Dawgosphere because it’s blogs about the Dawgs! See?? Get it??

OMG the College Football season starts in earnest in less than 48 hours. I for one can. not. wait. Tent City has all her preparations all lined up for another stellar tailgating season and we might be on the verge of witnessing a very special season for the Dawgs. Seriously, I can’t wait.

Anyway, here’s some tidbits from the (ha! Get it?) Dawgosphere:

48 freakin’ hours. Woooooooooooooooo!

Dawg Wordles

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Well the wordles of popular songs thing went so well that Ally over at The Road To Copacetic and Mackalicious at Blogging Pantsless got into the act. (Thanks for the h/t, Ally!)

In honor of these two fine and distinguished Dawgs, I present Munson. Wordled. I think I’m going to frame these. Seriously.

There’s just something so visually cool about these… I think because they remind me of all the awesome stuff Saul Bass did, for example:

So, so cool, man.

Later.

Robocop, Wilt Thou Ne’er Be Cranked Again?

Josh at Martians Attacking Indianapolis has broken THE big story of this football offseason, via a source who requested she (or maybe he, maybe. You don’t know.) remain anonymous.

While recent injuries and our brutal schedule leave much uncertainty for this season, one thing is for certain…

We won’t be seeing any of this next year:

94%DRUNKARD

Frankly, I’m a bit offended that an extensive knowledge of the makeup of alcoholic beverages automatically makes me a drunkard when in fact it’s my case of Miller Lite every day after work that makes me one.

46%

Disappointed in this one – I thought I had this one pretty well figured out.

20

Thinking about putting this one on my resume’.

55

Tougher than it seems – I’m curious to see if my hypothesis is true; most, if not all, people would name more countries in the time allotted if they didn’t know they were being timed.

64%

I’m making it a point to lose weight, so unfortunately this one will go down as we move through the spring and summer.

32

Got hung up on this one several times where I’d draw a complete blank. Spent 30 seconds arguing with my screen for not accepting “vermillion”. Little did I know that I was spelling it wrong (FWIW, only one “L” in “vermilion” – who knew).

42%

I’ve seen enough movies. I’d be fine.

56% Geek

Not sure if I should be proud or disappointed. OK I admit it – I’m disappointed.

Ditto.

Too Good To Pass Up…

Golf is never fun when you’re not driving well.

hmm, this is quite interesting

When parents praise their children’s intelligence, they believe they are providing the solution to this problem. According to a survey conducted by Columbia University, 85 percent of American parents think it’s important to tell their kids that they’re smart. In and around the New York area, according to my own (admittedly nonscientific) poll, the number is more like 100 percent. Everyone does it, habitually. The constant praise is meant to be an angel on the shoulder, ensuring that children do not sell their talents short.

But a growing body of research—and a new study from the trenches of the New York public-school system—strongly suggests it might be the other way around. Giving kids the label of “smart” does not prevent them from underperforming. It might actually be causing it.

And All This Time I Thought I Was A Genius (Part 2)

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Reinforcing the notion that I am not, sadly, a genius, but that at least one of my friends is…

Meimi, you are a genius. I know because the folks at cuteoverload.com have said so. I had this picture at my desk at work before I lost both the work and the desk that came with it, and I’m pretty sure Amy still has it at her desk at the Atlanta Zoo.

Meims might be the only person I know who can capture hippo-cuteness at one moment then karate-chop your head off the next.

Kudos, Meims.

Game Six of ‘86 WS – RBI Baseball Style

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

RBI Baseball was a groundbreaking baseball video game for it’s time. The first game to be fully licensed by MLB and the Players Association, RBI was the scene of many epic battles between my friends and I. Just the other day the Croz and I were talking about how dominant the Red Sox were in the game: Clemens was always the top choice for starter, and it seemed like every guy in the lineup was a 8-bit superstar (Rice, Boggs, Baylor, Evans as starters, with Henderson and Burks off the bench).

Anyway, what this guy has done is amazing: he’s accurately (as accurately as possible with a ~20-year-old video game) reproduced the 10th inning of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (the Buckner game) using RBI baseball video and Vin Scully’s original call. Sweet stuff.

I just can’t imagine 1) how long this took and 2) how he didn’t go insane from the music.

It’s easy1 – just add an egg.

1. Easy unless you’re Japanese. In which case you’ll go out of your way to make it as complicated (and yes, entertaining as possible).

Put This Into Perspective

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

I know I haven’t posted in like a month. Back off, would ya? Patience, grasshopper.

In the mean time, I might just be droppin’ links like Galileo dropped the orange.

This first one: Wow. Brilliant, yet devious. Deviously brilliant. An acid trip gone beautifully, ingeniously wrong and right. I have a bad feeling I’m one of those people that would throw up if I stood in the middle of the hallway in the first pic for too long.

*UPDATE* Tons more here.
