OMG the College Football season starts in earnest in less than 48 hours. I for one can. not. wait. Tent City has all her preparations all lined up for another stellar tailgating season and we might be on the verge of witnessing a very special season for the Dawgs. Seriously, I can’t wait.

Anyway, here’s some tidbits from the (ha! Get it?) Dawgosphere:

• Mackalicious at Blogging Pantsless has kick-started a new video series, Great Moments In Georgia History. The first episode looks back at Jim Donnan’s first victory as Georgia’s head coach, the 15-12 win over Texas Tech. Get over there and check it out.
• PWD caught up with radio announcer Scott Howard to talk about Munson and the upcoming season.
• Doug needs tickets to the Georgia Southern game. Help a brother out.

Got hung up on this one several times where I’d draw a complete blank. Spent 30 seconds arguing with my screen for not accepting “vermillion”. Little did I know that I was spelling it wrong (FWIW, only one “L” in “vermilion” – who knew).

Not sure if I should be proud or disappointed. OK I admit it – I’m disappointed.

When parents praise their children’s intelligence, they believe they are providing the solution to this problem. According to a survey conducted by Columbia University, 85 percent of American parents think it’s important to tell their kids that they’re smart. In and around the New York area, according to my own (admittedly nonscientific) poll, the number is more like 100 percent. Everyone does it, habitually. The constant praise is meant to be an angel on the shoulder, ensuring that children do not sell their talents short.

But a growing body of research—and a new study from the trenches of the New York public-school system—strongly suggests it might be the other way around. Giving kids the label of “smart” does not prevent them from underperforming. It might actually be causing it.

Meimi, you are a genius. I know because the folks at cuteoverload.com have said so. I had this picture at my desk at work before I lost both the work and the desk that came with it, and I’m pretty sure Amy still has it at her desk at the Atlanta Zoo.

Meims might be the only person I know who can capture hippo-cuteness at one moment then karate-chop your head off the next.

Anyway, what this guy has done is amazing: he’s accurately (as accurately as possible with a ~20-year-old video game) reproduced the 10th inning of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (the Buckner game) using RBI baseball video and Vin Scully’s original call. Sweet stuff.

I just can’t imagine 1) how long this took and 2) how he didn’t go insane from the music.
