For A Minute, I Lost Myself

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

yo dave, c’mon man. let’s update this blog yo. I’m having withdrawl. – Dennis, Jan 18, 7:15 PM

Apologies. Here’s a smattering, a menagerie, a sprinkling if you will of goings-on and whatnot.

Snow ‘08

  • OMGCheckTheKidsOutOfSchoolAndGetToTheStoreForBreadAndMilkBeforeWeAllDieSnowJam 2008 arrived quietly Thursday and then with more of a vengeance on Saturday. Now that it’s already melting off, we can go ahead and start looking forward to the next one, likely three years from now.
  • Josh and I agree on enough things that it makes me slightly uncomfortable. A couple recent things that fit into this category: We both want to see a Packers/Pats Super Bowl, with the Pack coming out on top; and, you must must must see Once. You must. Do it. You then must get the soundtrack.
  • While you’re getting the Once soundtrack, do yourself a favor and check out “Boxer”, the latest album from The National.

A little bonus Christmassy goodie: Me singing off-key!

This used to be pretty common at the parents’ house around Christmas. That’s me imitating a dying goose singing, my brother Alan on drums, brother Charles on sax, nephew Daniel sitting on the steps, my sister-in-law Cindy on electric piano, her brother Rick on bass, and Rick’s son Andrew on guitar.

A Hallerween Blast From The Past

A Chip and DAve holiday special, AD 1997. The Casio keyboard is the most underrated pseudo-drum machine ever made. I have to say that

If you don’t like Halloween, you can get the hell outta my face… right now.

is one of the greatest lines in music history.

Not much middle ground on this. You’ll either be all “Meh” or ROFL!!1!. I was practically the latter.

It’s true what they said: Clapton IS God. And the saxophone, lord, the saxophone.

Happy Birthday, OK Computer

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Radiohead’s masterpiece OK Computer turns 10 this year.

I therefore present thee, OK Computer, with two gifts.

  1. An industrial strength pair of earplugs.
  2. And this (utilize gift one before moving on to gift two):

I posted this on YouTube because apparently without knowing it I turned into some kind of glutton for punishment, knowing full well how YouTube commenters can be.

Wednesday Not-So-Random-Ten: Kickin’ The Brits’ Asses Edition

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Holidays in the middle of the week are weird. You can’t really do too much with them since they’re bookended by the requirements of your (if you’re me) 9-to-5. Not that I’m complaining. Days off for something unpainful and untragic have been in short supply lately.

These (Not-So-)Random Tens are a good way to ease back into posting; they don’t require much preparation, study, intellectual delving, or thought. Perfect for 6:45 in the morning on a holiday.

Enjoy your Fourth, everyone.

  1. “4th of July”, Soundgarden
  2. “4th of July”, Voodoo Shoehorn (a one-off band consisting partly of Billy Pilgrim’s Andrew Hyra and Kristian Bush, covering X)
  3. “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)”, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
  4. “Independence Day”, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
  5. “I’m Afraid Of Americans”, David Bowie
  6. “American Pie”, Don McLean
  7. “America”, Neil Diamond
  8. “Last Boat To America”, David Gray
  9. “America”, Simon and Garfunkel
  10. and, of course,

  11. “America, F**k Yeah”, Trey Parker (From Team America, World Police) Note: I will reward anyone who can find a karaoke version of this song and get it to me.

Society is produced by our wants, and government by wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher. Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil. — Thomas Paine

“Da Skween Do Swams…”

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

I’m a bitter, crusty, cynical, 30-something bastid.

So when I tell you that this video may just be the CUTEST. THING. EVAR., I suggest you not take my word for it, just watch and then dare to tell me I’m wrong.
