I’m A Sucker For Something: The Big Reveal

As the three regular readers of this blog know, I recently ordered two, count ‘em, two Somethings from Somethingstore.com a couple of weeks ago. Well, ladies and gents, my package arrived today…

Ticket Of The Day: Josh Joplin Band at The Cotton Club, 1999

Josh Joplin Band at The Cotton Club

Great band back in the day, before they changed drummers and became the “Josh Joplin Group” which I still don’t understand to this day. I think I went with Dennis’s brother to this show.

Hail, Naw

Today’s storm brought with it some nastiness and (sweet!) I lost power for two hours. Hopefully these eggs I just ate won’t kill me.

I’m A Sucker For Something

Since the economy’s doing so well, it’s really nothing for me to throw down twenty bucks on two items of undetermined value and quality. So that’s what I did, via the Something Store. Basically you pay ten bucks (shipping included) for well, something. And they send that something to you.

If the business model weren’t so brilliant (they sold 1,000 in their first month of operation), I’d dismiss this. But I’m a sucker for the unknown I guess.

So what exactly can I expect? Anything from a coffee maker to an incense kit (yeah, ladies) to an electronic translator. Actually, that’s the good stuff. I could end up with a wallet made of duct tape or a “grandma church hat”. Which actually would be kinda sweet too.

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of “I’m A Sucker For Something” when I reveal what two scintillating products I received in all their glory.

Bad, Bad Idea, Myspace

Whoever decided that incorporating a karaoke feature into Myspace obviously didn’t count on me abusing it for all it’s worth. I know I can’t sing - does that stop me? No. I know I make a fool of myself - does that stop me? No. Besides, it’s ultimately about the feeling, and this rendition of Joe Cocker’s cover of “With A Little Help From My Friends” has got feeling out the yin-yang. So much, in fact, I might have blown out the microphone. Do not crank this one. In fact, don’t even listen to it. Just skip this post altogether.

My Radiohead Dream Setlist

As mentioned prior, I, along with Maya, Kevin, and Mike, will be going to see Radiohead this Thursday night at Lakewood Amphitheatre.

I tried my best to refrain from seeking out the setlist from the first show of the U.S. leg of the tour which was last night in W. Palm Beach, but that lasted all of no time at all. Not surprisingly (and I don’t think this would be a spoiler), a large majority of the setlist was from “In Rainbows”. Which is great and all - but I was thinking: If I could do my dream setlist for the band (and actually restrict it and not just say, “Play every song from every album”), what would it be? I decided to pick 23 songs as that’s how many they played last night (!!) in West Palm. Anyone care to chime in? Additions? Subtractions?

Derby Day 2008

This year’s Derby Day was fun despite the smaller-than-usual group and threat of cruddy weather. The rain moved out early and we did manage to get some sun before the night came and cooled things off.

This year’s biggest sponsor was Bulleit Bourbon, who set up a huge area in the sponsor tent complete with free bourbon drinks, leather couches, and coffee tables. (Big ups to Jamie at 94.9 The Bull for the sponsor passes! Thanks, Jame!)

Ticket Of The Day: Trisha Yearwood Concert

Trisha Yearwood Concert, 1992

Trisha became kind of a big deal to say the least. But being the brother of one of her friends from Young Harris College paid off. Got to meet her backstage and everything. This was just after her first hit, “She’s In Love With The Boy”, took off.
