Here’s a cassette recording made 40 years ago today by my father as the Akins clan watched the first steps by man upon the moon. I came across this tape probably ten years ago and was surprised that 1) I found it in the first place and 2) that the sound was still OK in places. Unfortunately a good portion of the tape would speed up or slow down during playback, so I ran my original audio rip through Audacity to clean it up as best I can. This is the finished product. I thought this was pretty cool from a historical perspective, and while the tape ends before Armstrong’s famous “One small step…” line, it still has some interesting tidbits of info from the news coverage.

*sigh* It never gets old. UGA beats the North Avenue Trade School Nerds for the 7th straight year.

Knowshon Moreno ran for 124 yards and a touchdown as the Dawgs came back from a 10-0 deficit to beat the Wildcats 24-13.

The now-legendary “blackout” game. The entire stadium went absolutely nuts when the players came out in the black unis.

I remember two primary things from this weekend:

1. We lost. Shockley was out and Joe T III, save his TD reception from Thomas Brown, was mostly ineffective.
2. This was the year we got to see how the RVer’s do it for the WLOCP.

Oh, big shocker. We lost. At least this was the debut of Josh’s Greatest Sign Of All Time:

Holy *&%$ we won. And we didn’t just win – we blew the doors off and finally decided to stop playing whipping boy to UF. All it took was a ballsy call by Coach Richt after the first TD:

I remember this being an uuuugly game. I think we needed a sack right at the end to hang on.
