Simplifying

I got rid of an entire section (News) because it was pretty redundant and pointless. Redid the navigation menu at top to reflect that and decided I didn't need a Contact section either. Easier just to put my e-mail address under the calendars. Also dumped the "enter" page as well. Wasn't necessary.

I'm close to being ready to unleash this thing here on the world. Thanks to all of you who already visit on a regular or semi-regular basis and provide critiques. 'Preesh.

Beauty, thy name is Carla

Last night, I decided to take my friend Jamie's offer to go see The Thorns (the new, CSN'y band fronted by Matthew Sweet, Shawn Mullins, and Pete Droge), who were opening for the Jayhawks last night at the Variety Playhouse here in Atlanta.

Little did I know that before The Thorns took the stage, I would bask in the glow of a musical angel, who last night was undoubtedly singing only for me...

Beauty, thy name is Carla Werner.

Now, if you check out her pictures on her website it becomes obvious pretty quickly that she ain't hard on the eyes. But that's not all. When she spoke, I recognized the accent immediately: New Zealand. I don't know if any of you have a thing for Kiwi accents the way I do but lemme tell ya for me that pushed me over the cliff of simple, physical, animal lust into the valley of heartfelt affection.

So did it stop there?

No.

Finally, this beauty, this siren, this closest-thing-to-Elle-Macpherson I've seen with my own eyes decides to "give something back" to the crowd by playing us a cover song. (By the way, she's got a FANTASTIC voice - I would have no problems with her singing me to sleep every night, or jumping my bones... one or the other... or both)
But I digress... she plays "Going To California" by Led Zeppelin! OK, that was it... hot? check. Kiwi accent? check. great voice? check. is into Zeppelin? check.

So anyway I guess I'm in love. Shakira has been evicted from my brain and I've handed Carla the keys.

Oh, and The Thorns were good too. Check 'em out.

P.J.'s Take

IF YOU PLAN not to read this summer, "Living History" is just the book.

P.J. O'Rourke reviews Hillary's non-book, courtesy of the Weekly Standard.

If you ever get the chance, pick up O'Rourke's "Parliament of Whores", "Eat The Rich", and/or "Give War a Chance".
